Saturday 3rd October is World Card Making Day, so set aside some time and get creative with card and other materials to make a batch of greetings. You could dedicate your time to creating Christmas cards in preparation for the impending festivities, but you may also wish to make others to save you time later on in the future. In this post, we give you suggestions on different card themes.
1 Birthday
The most popular greeting card by far is for birthdays. Hundreds of them are available in shops, but there’s nothing like a handmade card to let a loved one know you care about them. This bright design would be a perfect match for someone.
2 Christmas
The second most popular type of greeting in the world is the Christmas card! From traditional to eclectic, there are so many different types you can choose to make to reflect your tastes. We think that our Scandi fabric card is a great option, plus it can be made using scraps from your craft stash!
3 Thinking Of You
When you’re feeling under the weather or going through a rough patch, a greeting from someone you care about can make a world of difference. If you’re looking for a bit of creative inspiration, then check out our decoupage card.
4 Hey There
The instant accessibility of emails and texts has meant that the humble letter isn’t as popular as it used to be, but why let that stop you from sending them anyway? Think about how incredibly exciting it is to receive post (of the non-bill kind)... who wouldn’t want that to look forward to every month or so? Our friendly fox card is ideal for keeping letters safe and greeting your friend before they’ve even read it.
5 Wedding
If you’re planning for a wedding and want to save a bit of money, then making your own invites has probably crossed your mind. This simple design has a soft, neutral tone whilst being fun and contemporary. If you want to be thrifty, go to your local charity shops or look on eBay for second-hand maps to use instead of printed papers.
6 Pretty Picture
It’s convenient to have sentiment-free cards to hand as they can be adapted to suit any occasion. However, it doesn’t mean that they have to be plain – our art therapy card is about as detailed and colourful as they get! For a special twist, why not send out this greeting with a packet of pencils for your recepient to colour in and enjoy?
7 Garden Party
Free food, nice things to drink, sunshine and good company: who doesn’t love a good garden party? Create and send out lots of special invitations to your chosen guests for them to admire.
8 Thank You
Show someone your gratitude with a pretty hot foiled butterfly card that’s just bursting with colour! If you want to know more about this technique, we’ve got a great tutorial on how to use the TODO Machine from our very own Corinne Bradd, but if you don’t have a foiling gadget, use metallic papers instead.
9 Baby News
Having a baby is a huge life-changing event, so send your congratulations and welcome the new babe into the world with our sweet pea card.
10 New Home
Moving into a new house marks a major milestone for many, and what better way to help someone get settled into their abode than with a handmade bird-themed greeting to brighten their shelves?
11 Speedy Seasonal
If you’ve got a lot of people to make Christmas cards for, you’re going to want designs that are simple to put together. Luckily for you, these speedy greetings are ideal as they use simple shapes made from vibrant patterned papers.
