Ditch the cling film and replace it with these eco-friendly solutions created from fabric and Soap Kitchen's beeswax

What you need...

• Beeswax pellets, The Soap Kitchen
  Handmade soap, The Soap Kitchen
  Fabric, cotton
  Yarn, cotton DK
  Crochet hook, 3mm
  Greaseproof paper

instructions

1. Beeswax Fabric - 1 Iron cotton fabric to remove any creases and lay onto a sheet of greaseproof paper. Scatter a handful of beeswax pellets evenly over the fabric and lay a second sheet of paper on top. Set the iron to a medium heat and press over the paper to melt the wax pellets into the fabric.
   
   2 Keep ironing over the top of the paper to ensure the wax is spread evenly, adding more if you see any blank spots. Once happy with the coverage, place another piece of fabric under the first and re-iron so it absorbs the excess wax. Use this piece to make another beeswax wrap in the same way.
   
   3 Lay the pieces somewhere flat to cool, then trim the edges with pinking shears. The sheets of fabric can now be used as simple wraps or sewn to make bags and pouches. Hand wash in warm soapy water and leave to dry naturally.

2. Foldover Pouch - 1 Wax fabric, 12.5cm x 15cm. Fold over a 5mm double hem on each short end and topstitch. Lay right side up and fold over 3.5cm on one end. Fold the other over this so the hemmed edge nearly touches the first fold.
   
   2 Sew down both raw sides of the folded fabric with a 5mm seam allowance. Clip the corners and turn out to make an envelope top pouch. Flip the top flap over, then insert the soap bar and flip back.

3. Drawstring Bag - 1 Wax fabric, 12.5cm x 25cm, then cut co-ordinating cotton, 3cm x 25cm. Fold in and glue down 1cm at each end of the strip before folding in half lengthways and sewing to the centre top-edge of the waxed cotton.
   
   2 Fingerpress the seam to the waxed side and topstitch before folding the rectangle in half, right sides together. Sew down the side and across the bottom with a 5mm seam allowance. Clip the corners and turn out.
   
   3 Using a 3mm crochet hook and co-ordinating cotton yarn, crochet a 32cm long chain. Secure both ends of the chain and trim before threading through the channel at the top of the bag. Slip the soap inside and tighten the drawstring to close.

4. Beeswax Band - Using a 3mm hook and DK yarn 7ch. Turn.
   Row 1: work 1dc into second ch from hook and every ch to end. 1ch, turn.
   Repeat Row 2 to desired length before joining into a band by slipstitching the ends together and fastening off.
