Crafts Beautiful Magazine

Iris folding may look complicated but it’s simply a technique where the ends of narrow strips of paper are layered on top of each other in a certain order, working inwards inside a shaped aperture. This creates a pattern on the right side, with the centre forming an iris similar to that of an eye or a camera lens. As the new school year is upon us, how about your little one giving their favourite new teacher an adorable apple card? The template is simple to download and cut out, and the folding technique is straightforward. I’ve used a lightweight card for the apple itself to make it easy to cut out but strong enough to withstand the weight of multiple paper strips, and a smooth, easy-to-fold origami paper for the iris strips. Overall, it’s a very satisfying technique, simple for beginners and pleasing for professionals.
