instructions
  1. Poinsettia Card - Using red quilling paper, form seven loose coils from full lengths, two from half lengths, and three from one third lengths. Secure each with glue and pinch two points to form a leaf shape. Curve some slightly into an ‘s’ shape.

Make six tight coils, using one third lengths of yellow quilling paper. Form three leaves from green paper and then create the stem by wrapping a length of quilling paper around a darning needle. Slip off the needle and stretch out gently.

Fold white hammered card into a concertina blank. Arrange the yellow coils to form the centre of the poinsettia and then position the petals around the outside, sticking in place with small blobs of PVA. Adhere the stem down from between two petals and then arrange the leaves down the length.

Trim a plant pot shape from card and cover in patterned paper. Stick at the bottom of the stem with foam pads. Tie a knot in a small length of red ribbon and fix this and a small tag onto the pot. Glue an acetate greeting along the top of card. Fix a message to the inside and a coordinating panel of paper on the back edge of the card, as shown.

  2. Present Card - Make four red loose coils, glue the ends down, then pinch four corners into each coil to form squares. Stick the four shapes down onto a larger square of gold card to form the present. Wrap narrow cream ribbon down the centre, both horizontally and vertically – tying a knot at the top of the vertical piece of ribbon. Fix at the back with tape.

Cover the left-hand side of a white card blank with Christmas text paper. Glue a length of red rick rack over the join. Snip a sentiment from the text paper and double mount onto red and gold card. Stick this panel centrally in the top half of the blank with foam pads.

Glue the quilled present in the bottom right-hand corner. Draw a double line all around the edge of the card front with a green fineliner pen – you don’t need to use a ruler as it looks better ‘freehand’. Adhere a narrow strip of text paper down the right-hand side of the inside of the card, and cover the join with a length of red quilling paper.
