instructions
  1. case - 1. Cover the whole of the suitcase with white paint using a wide nibbed pen. Leave to dry. Over the top, add small amounts of yellow, then white, blending both colours into a creamy shade. Continue working in small areas so the colours don’t dry out before the correct shade is achieved.

    2. On the top half of the front and back flat sides, add a solid block of light blue using the 8K pen. When the paint is dry, take a pencil or draw down paper and transfer a row of beach huts from the pattern pages. Repeat on the reverse side. Experiment with the layout, resizing the motifs to fit if necessary.

    3. Add the other motifs, such as the bunting, sandcastle, bucket and spades. When all the pencil lines are drawn in, apply the decoration using the different width pens. Use our illustrations as a guide to colour.

    4. Add further shading and detail to the motifs. Position bunting over the top of huts and sides of case. Fill in the huts with flat white and, when dry, start adding patterns to each one, as shown. To make each hut stand out, paint the roofs in contrasting colours.

    5. Decorate each bunting flag by applying flat colours all over, then building up patterns with dots and lines. Add spots of yellow on the paler backgrounds on the front, back and sides of the case. Lastly, apply black or blue key lines to accentuate all the motifs.

  2. box & frame - 1. Our little fish box has a blue background colour applied with a wide pen. Once dry add a pattern of your choice.

    2. For the frame, use the same white and yellow background as the case, applied with the two broad pens. The pattern of smaller huts can be traced out over the frame and decorated using all the colours. Add dots of green, yellow and pink in between each motif.
