With their delicate, colourful wings and graceful presence, butterflies have always been a source of fascination for us, and there’s no better time to appreciate their beauty than in the summer. We’ve rounded up a selection of our favourite fluttering crafts.
1 Gilded Flight
Team BoBunny papers with gold glitter to create a gorgeous Art Deco-inspired card. Find the project here.
2 Butterfly Tunic
This dress is made by attaching a woven butterfly to a child’s plain tunic or top – they’re sure to love it! Alternatively, make your own design using fabric paints.
3 Kimono Card
This pretty greeting mimics a Japanese folding screen, which is called a Byōbu and means ‘wind wall’. The Japanese view butterflies as symbols of joy and longevity, so hopefully this card will make any recipient happy for a long time to come!
4 Flutterby Toppers
If you want a cake that will wow your guests, then why not top one with flying crepe butterflies? Not only are they quick and easy to make, but they’re also great value for money!
5 Colourful Creatures
Matching die-cuts and stamps are used to create this gorgeous card, which is part of a collection of four. You can download the project from our website.
6 Watercolour Wash
This superb tutorial shows you how to manipulate water and paints to create serene, whimsical images.
7 Winged Treats
Blue Morpho butterflies are exquisitely beautiful creatures, and these iced biscuits certainly do them justice – they would make a fabulous statement at any party!
8 Knitted Gloves
Monarch butterflies are famous for travelling long distances, so it makes sense that these hardy insects are the source of inspiration for this knitted fingerless gloves pattern – the gloves will certainly keep your hands warm in style!
9 Quilted Bag
Know someone who loves their hot drinks? If you’re looking to make them a present, then this butterfly mug bag is ideal, and gorgeous to boot! Find out how to make it here.
10 Game Of Embroidery
Are you a fan of the hit HBO series, Game Of Thrones? Do you gaze adoringly at the stunningly embroidered gowns featuring motifs such as these butterflies and wish you knew how they were made? Designer Michele Carrager shows us how she does it.
11 Mini Crochet
These teeny crochet critters would look lovely as a main focal point for a card, attached to a cushion or sewn onto a scarf: the possibilities are endless!
12 Stencilled Ceiling
If you want to brighten up a bedroom on a budget, consider adding butterfly patterns onto a ceiling using stencils and metallic paints, like this one here.
13 Winged Coop
These templates were used to create butterflies from old book pages before being adhered to a small metal cage. Add a blush of pink to the wings, a few gems, some pretty flowers and voilà! You have a chic, vintage-look trinket.
14 Framed Beauties
This clever frame is a superb project for beginner crafters or for someone looking to make something wonderful in a short space of time. Use a punch to cut out butterflies from patterned papers and stick them inside a frame.
15 Appliqué Accessory
Making a tote bag and want to add an appliqué design to it? Download this butterfly motif and resize it to suit your sewing needs.
If this post has put butterflies in your tummy, then head on over to our website – we’ve got plenty more wonderful makes featuring these little creatures!
