An empty craft room is the same as a white canvas: a blank slate filled with nothing but endless possibilities! It’s also the perfect opportunity for you to express yourself and create a space that perfectly reflects your personality. When it comes to decorating, there’s a non-exhaustive list of resources at your disposal, but often this doesn’t come cheap. Paint, wallpaper, not to mention furniture and art can be a costly endeavor to bring your space to life. However, with a bit of ingenuity, hard work and creativity, you can easily decorate your space and save some pennies, too.
1 Invest in posters
If you’d like to showcase art that inspires you, consider buying posters instead of paintings. While they won’t be the original masterpieces, you can pick the exact image you want on your wall at a fraction of the price. You can even get your posters produced and delivered to you direct for added convenience. Instead of simply tacking them to the wall, get creative! You could frame them, match them with your furniture or hang them up on hangers, the choice is yours!
2 Get creative with DIY decor
Buying new décor and furniture, new or otherwise, can be expensive. So why not consider using some basic DIY skills to upcycle everyday items into functional, unique and aesthetically-pleasing furniture? Old crates are ideal for building modular shelves or side tables, ladders can be repurposed as bookshelves, while outdoor flower pots can be transformed with a quick lick of paint.
3 Decorate with tape
If you’d like to add colour to a feature wall or storage cupboard, consider using different coloured tapes, instead of splashing out on paint or wallpaper. Utilise bright colours and patterns to really transform a wall from plain to fabulous in a matter of minutes. The best part about this method is that if you get bored of the design, you can remove the tape and create a brand new look instantly!
4 Create an inspiration board
Pinterest is a wonderful way to spark your inspiration, but you can’t beat having a few ideas hanging up in your craft room, too! With a canvas, a selection of pretty fabrics and drawing pins on hand, you can make a pin board ready to fill with colour swatches and future project ideas.
5 Make statement wall art
Pair your posters with handmade wall art, such as these vintage tennis rackets. They’re perfect for using up your odds and ends of yarn, and they’re great fun to make too! What motif will you choose for your new craft room?
